1. Acceptance of these Terms
Welcome to NoStrangers.
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the NoStrangers website, web application and related services operated by NoStrangers Limited ("NoStrangers", "we", "our" or "us").
By accessing, creating an account, purchasing a Trust Request, subscribing to Premium, completing a verification, or otherwise using NoStrangers, you agree to be legally bound by these Terms and our Privacy Policy.
If you do not agree to these Terms, you must not use NoStrangers.
2. About NoStrangers
NoStrangers is a trust and safety platform that allows people to verify aspects of their identity before meeting another person.
Our platform is designed to increase confidence by enabling users to exchange Trust Requests, complete verification, and choose what verified information they wish to share before meeting.
NoStrangers is not:
- a dating service;
- a marketplace;
- a social networking platform;
- a background checking service;
- a law enforcement agency; or
- an identity registry.
We provide technology that assists users in making more informed decisions. We do not guarantee the identity, honesty, intentions, conduct or future behaviour of any person.
3. Eligibility
To use NoStrangers you must:
- be at least 18 years old;
- have the legal capacity to enter into a binding agreement;
- provide truthful information;
- use the platform only for lawful purposes; and
- comply with these Terms.
If you use NoStrangers on behalf of an organisation, you confirm that you have authority to bind that organisation to these Terms.
We reserve the right to refuse access to the platform where permitted by law.
4. Your Account
Certain features require you to create an account.
You are responsible for:
- maintaining the confidentiality of your login credentials;
- ensuring the information associated with your account remains accurate;
- all activity occurring under your account; and
- notifying us promptly if you believe your account has been compromised.
You must not:
- share your account with another person;
- create accounts using false identities;
- impersonate another individual; or
- attempt to access another user's account.
We may require additional verification where reasonably necessary to protect the security of the platform.
5. Trust Requests
A Trust Request is the core feature of NoStrangers.
It enables one user to invite another user to complete a verification process before meeting.
Each participant independently decides what verified information they wish to disclose.
NoStrangers does not force users to share all verified information.
A completed Trust Request represents only the information voluntarily shared by each participant.
Users remain responsible for deciding whether they wish to proceed with any meeting.
6. Verification Services
NoStrangers currently offers two verification methods.
Identity Verified
Identity verification is provided through Veriff.
This process may include:
- government-issued identification review;
- facial liveness verification; and
- facial comparison.
Verification results are provided through Veriff's technology.
Photos Verified
Photo verification uses Amazon Web Services Rekognition.
This process compares uploaded photographs against a verification selfie to determine whether they appear to belong to the same individual.
Photo Verification does not confirm a person's legal identity.
It is intended only to provide increased confidence that uploaded photographs are consistent with the person completing verification.
7. What Verification Means
Verification through NoStrangers is intended to increase trust, not eliminate risk.
A successful verification indicates only that the relevant verification process was successfully completed according to the technology and criteria used at that time.
Verification does not guarantee:
- that a person is who they claim to be in every respect;
- that their government-issued identification is genuine beyond the verification performed;
- that they will behave honestly;
- that they have good intentions;
- that they will attend a meeting;
- that they will not commit fraud;
- that they will not commit a criminal offence; or
- that meeting them is safe.
Users should always exercise their own judgment and take appropriate precautions before meeting another person.
8. User Responsibilities
By using NoStrangers you agree that you will:
- provide accurate information;
- use only your own photographs and identification;
- respect the privacy of other users;
- use the platform honestly and lawfully;
- comply with all applicable laws; and
- use the service only for its intended purpose.
You remain solely responsible for your decisions, including whether to meet another person.
9. Prohibited Conduct
You must not use NoStrangers to:
- impersonate another person;
- upload false, misleading or manipulated verification information;
- upload identification belonging to another individual;
- attempt to defeat or interfere with verification systems;
- scrape, harvest or copy user information;
- reverse engineer or test the platform for vulnerabilities without written permission;
- send spam or unsolicited Trust Requests;
- harass, threaten or intimidate other users;
- facilitate unlawful activity;
- upload malicious software or harmful code; or
- use the platform in any manner that could damage NoStrangers or its users.
Any attempt to misuse verification services or undermine the integrity of the platform may result in immediate suspension or termination.
10. User Content
You retain ownership of the information, photographs and content you upload.
By submitting content to NoStrangers, you grant us a limited, non-exclusive licence to use, store, process and transmit that content solely for the purpose of:
- operating the platform;
- completing verification;
- facilitating Trust Requests;
- preventing fraud;
- maintaining security;
- complying with legal obligations; and
- providing customer support.
This licence ends when the information is deleted in accordance with our Privacy Policy, except where we are legally required to retain certain records.
You represent and warrant that:
- you own or have permission to use all uploaded content;
- uploading the content does not infringe another person's rights; and
- the information you provide is accurate to the best of your knowledge.
11. Suspension and Refusal of Service
To protect users and the integrity of NoStrangers, we may suspend, restrict or refuse access to the platform where we reasonably believe that:
- these Terms have been breached;
- fraudulent activity has occurred;
- verification systems have been abused;
- another person's identity has been misused;
- unlawful activity may be occurring; or
- continued access presents an unacceptable security or operational risk.
Where appropriate, we may investigate suspected misuse before restoring access.
Suspension or refusal of service does not prevent us from complying with any legal obligations or lawful requests from regulatory or law enforcement authorities.
12. Pay As You Go Purchases
NoStrangers offers a Pay As You Go option for users who do not wish to subscribe to Premium.
Pay As You Go users purchase individual Trust Requests as required.
Each purchased Trust Request grants the purchaser the right to create or complete the applicable Trust Request in accordance with the product features available at the time of purchase.
Unless otherwise stated, purchased Trust Requests:
- are non-transferable;
- have no cash value;
- cannot be exchanged for other services;
- may only be used through your NoStrangers account or authorised guest flow; and
- are subject to these Terms.
Unused purchases may expire where clearly disclosed before purchase or where required to maintain platform security.
14. Billing and Payments
Payments are processed securely by Stripe.
By purchasing a Trust Request or subscribing to Premium, you authorise Stripe to process payment using your chosen payment method.
NoStrangers does not store your complete payment card details.
Prices displayed within the platform include any applicable taxes unless stated otherwise.
If a payment cannot be processed, we may:
- suspend Premium benefits;
- decline the purchase;
- request an alternative payment method; or
- cancel the transaction.
We reserve the right to correct obvious pricing errors before completing a transaction.
15. Subscription Renewal and Cancellation
Premium subscriptions automatically renew at the end of each billing period unless cancelled before renewal.
You may cancel your Premium subscription at any time through your account settings or the payment method provided within the platform.
Cancellation prevents future renewals but does not normally entitle you to a refund for the current billing period unless required by applicable law.
If your subscription expires or is cancelled, your account will revert to the features available under the Pay As You Go model.
16. Refunds
Except where required by law, purchases of:
- Trust Requests;
- Premium subscriptions; and
- digital services
are generally non-refundable once the purchased service has been supplied.
Nothing in these Terms limits any rights you may have under applicable consumer protection legislation.
Where required by law, NoStrangers will provide refunds, repairs or other remedies consistent with those legal obligations.
17. Intellectual Property
The NoStrangers platform, including its software, branding, design, logos, text, graphics, layouts, databases and underlying technology, is owned by or licensed to NoStrangers Limited.
Except where permitted by law, you must not:
- copy;
- reproduce;
- distribute;
- modify;
- sell;
- license;
- reverse engineer;
- decompile; or
- exploit
any part of the platform without our prior written permission.
Nothing in these Terms transfers ownership of our intellectual property to you.
18. Service Availability
We aim to provide a reliable and secure platform.
However, NoStrangers is provided on an "as available" basis.
We do not guarantee uninterrupted availability.
From time to time we may:
- perform maintenance;
- update software;
- improve security;
- introduce new features;
- remove obsolete functionality; or
- temporarily suspend services.
Where reasonably practicable, we will attempt to minimise disruption.
19. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, NoStrangers Limited is not liable for any loss, damage, injury, expense or claim arising from:
- another user's conduct;
- inaccurate information supplied by users;
- misuse of the platform;
- failed meetings;
- cancelled meetings;
- fraud committed by users;
- identity deception that could not reasonably be detected by the verification methods used;
- service interruptions;
- internet outages;
- third-party provider failures;
- unauthorised access resulting from circumstances beyond our reasonable control; or
- decisions made by users based on information shared through NoStrangers.
NoStrangers provides a platform to assist users in making more informed decisions. We do not guarantee the identity, honesty, intentions, behaviour or safety of any user.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability for any claim relating to the platform shall not exceed the greater of:
- the total amount paid by you to NoStrangers during the 12 months immediately preceding the event giving rise to the claim; or
- NZ$100.
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability where such exclusion is prohibited by law.
20. Indemnity
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless NoStrangers Limited, its directors, officers, employees and contractors from any claims, losses, liabilities, costs or expenses (including reasonable legal costs) arising from:
- your breach of these Terms;
- your unlawful conduct;
- your misuse of the platform;
- your infringement of another person's rights; or
- information or content you submit through NoStrangers.
This clause does not apply to the extent the claim results from our own negligence or unlawful conduct.
21. Suspension and Termination
You may stop using NoStrangers at any time.
We may suspend or terminate access immediately where we reasonably believe it is necessary to:
- protect users;
- maintain platform security;
- investigate suspected fraud;
- comply with legal obligations;
- prevent misuse; or
- enforce these Terms.
Termination does not affect any rights or obligations that arose before termination.
Certain provisions of these Terms, including those relating to payments, liability, indemnity, intellectual property and dispute resolution, will continue to apply after your access ends.
22. Privacy
Your use of NoStrangers is also governed by our Privacy Policy.
Our Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store and disclose personal information.
By using NoStrangers, you acknowledge that you have read our Privacy Policy.
23. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time to reflect:
- changes in the law;
- new product features;
- security improvements;
- operational requirements; or
- changes to our business.
The latest version will always be published on our website and within the platform.
Where changes materially affect your rights or obligations, we will make reasonable efforts to notify users before those changes take effect.
Your continued use of NoStrangers after revised Terms become effective constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
24. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of New Zealand.
Any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or your use of NoStrangers will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of New Zealand, unless applicable law requires otherwise.
Nothing in these Terms limits any mandatory consumer rights that cannot legally be excluded.

Final Provisions
If any provision of these Terms is found to be invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions will continue in full force and effect.
Any failure by NoStrangers to enforce a provision of these Terms on one occasion does not constitute a waiver of our right to enforce that provision in the future.
These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy and any policies expressly incorporated by reference, constitute the entire agreement between you and NoStrangers regarding your use of the platform and supersede any prior understandings relating to the subject matter.
