FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Everything about Trust Requests, verification, privacy and pricing in one place.

What is a Trust Request?

A Trust Request is a secure digital envelope shared between two people who are planning to meet. The person you send it to chooses whether to verify, how to verify, and exactly what verified information they share with you. You can verify yourself as well for a two-way exchange, but you don't have to.

Do I have to verify myself to send a Trust Request?

No. You can send a Trust Request without verifying yourself. The person receiving it chooses whether to verify and exactly what verified information they want to share with you. If you'd like to share verified information in return, you can verify yourself too.

Do I need an account or an app?

No. You can send or respond to a Trust Request in your browser without creating an account or downloading anything. An account is only needed for Premium features like unlimited Trust Requests and your verified photo album.

How long does verifying take?

Most people complete verification in about 90 seconds.

Is my Government ID shared with the other person?

Never. Your Government ID is used to confirm you are who you say you are. The other person sees only the details you chose to share, never the document itself.

Can NoStrangers see my ID document?

No. Government ID verification is completed directly by Veriff, an accredited identity verification provider. NoStrangers cannot view or access your uploaded document; we receive the verification result only.

What is Photos Verified?

Photos Verified matches a live selfie against the photos you want to share, using Amazon Rekognition. It confirms the person in the photos is the person you'll be meeting, without involving identity documents.

Does verifying automatically share my information?

No. Verifying yourself shares nothing on its own. You choose exactly which details go into the envelope, every time.

What happens to my information afterwards?

Information is shared for a meeting, not forever. Guest Trust Requests are one-time only: once completed or expired, the verification information shared during them is securely deleted. Premium users can review a completed Trust Request for up to 24 hours.

How long does my verification stay valid?

With Premium, your verification stays valid for 30 days, so you don't need to re-verify for every new Trust Request. Guest and one-off Trust Requests verify per request.

What does it cost?

Your first Trust Request is free, once only. After that you can buy a one-off Trust Request for NZ$2.00, or subscribe to Premium for NZ$4.99 a month for unlimited Trust Requests.

What if the other person refuses to verify?

That's information too. Nobody can be forced to verify, but a refusal to confirm basic identity before meeting a stranger is worth taking seriously. Trust your instincts, meet in public, and tell someone where you're going.

Is NoStrangers a background check?

No. NoStrangers confirms identity, that the person you're meeting is who they claim to be. It is not a criminal history, credit, or character check, and it does not guarantee anyone's behaviour.
